Summer Term 2018 – First Half

Welcome back! We hope you have all had a lovely break and are ready to begin our action packed summer term. We look forward to the trips out this term including a visit to Sindlesham Baptist Church and a Science trip to ‘BAYLAB’ in Reading.

Our topic for this term is Groovy Greeks and we will be kick starting the topic on Wednesday with a Big Bang day full of exciting activities!

To complement our topic work, we will be studying Myths and Legends in English, and non-chronological reports on Greek Gods. This term in Maths we will be focusing on place value, fractions, time, geometry, measurement and number.

Homework will be given out every Friday that is due the following Friday. The children should have their own file or book where their work can be recorded. Should your child need any extra support to complete the homework set, there is a homework club in Mrs Norman’s class on a Tuesday lunchtime.

Thank-you.

The Year 4 Team

Hello and welcome to Year 4!

We have a very exciting year ahead and will be looking at various topics including Ancient Romans, India and Ancient Greece. In science the children will be learning all about the digestive system and the importance of electricity, how it works, how to be safe and exploring different circuits.

Learning Environment

Our classrooms are designed to encourage and support learning. Look out for the cosy reading corner, Growth Mindset displays and encouraging behaviour chart. Keep a look out for your work being put on display! Will it make the Star work wall?

This year the children will receive an English writing or spelling task alongside a maths task every Friday to be completed for the following Friday. Please continue to learn the Year 3/4 spellings as the children will be tested termly. Click here for a copy of those Year 3/4 words.

Extra Information

Children should be reading to an adult at least three times a week. Please record in your child’s reading record book when they have done this! Just a quick comment or signature will be fine. As they become more independent in their reading, they are encouraged to write their own comment.

We will continue to have a weekly Buzz Time challenge. As they achieve each stage they shall receive a certificate.

P.E.

P.E will be on a Monday and a Wednesday. The children are expected to have their P.E kits in every Monday along with suitable shoes and hair ties for long hair.
