Notice Board
Summer Term 2018 – First Half

Year 1 News!

We hope you’ve had a great Easter holiday and are ready for another busy term which will hopefully be filled with sunshine and not rain!

This half term our topic is ‘Yee-Haw!’. We’ll be learning about all things related to the Wild West.

In English, we will be reading a story about a cowboy horse which has lots of repetition and using this to inspire our own story writing. For poetry, we’ll be learning a short poem about growing plants and using this to write a new version.

As we are finding out about cowboys, we will base our art work on cowboy horses and the clothes that cowboys wore. We’ll also be making a cactus to take home.

In Maths, we will be revisiting addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, particularly focusing on reasoning skills when problem solving. In addition, we will be measuring our sunflowers that we are growing as part of our Science work.

Show and Tell will also run every Friday. Please bring in something connected to our learning or something you have made/achieved outside school.

Please come and talk to us if you have any questions. We’re a friendly bunch.

Kind Regards,

The Year 1 Team

Year 1 Homework

Spelling and Maths homework will be issued after October half term. In the meanwhile, please read with your child at least three times a week. It is important that you sign in your child’s reading record every time you hear them read, in order for the books to be changed.
