Notice Board
Spring Term 2018 (second half)

Year 1 News!

We hope you’ve had a great half term and are ready for another fun packed term.

This half term our topic is ‘Oh the places you’ll go’. We’ll be learning about weather around the world and particularly focusing on Africa and the similarities and differences with where we live.

In English, we will be reading ‘Meerkat Mail’ and using this to inspire our own story writing. For our non-fiction focus, we will research meerkats and write a report.

As we are finding out about Africa, we will base our Art work on African patterns and colours. We will also learn about reusing plastics and use a plastic bottle brought in from home to make an African inspired maraca.

In Maths, we will be revisiting previous learning and introducing capacity, volume, length and height. In addition, we will learn about halves, quarters and the sequencing of time.

Show and Tell will also run every Friday. Please bring in something connected to our learning or something you have made/achieved outside school.

Please don’t hesitate to ask any one of the team if you have any questions.

Kind Regards,

The Year 1 Team

Year 1 Homework

Spelling and Maths homework will be issued after October half term. In the meanwhile, please read with your child at least three times a week. It is important that you sign in your child’s reading record every time you hear them read, in order for the books to be changed.
