Year 1
In Year 1, we have two classes – Sky and Ocean.
Our teachers are Mrs Queenborough, Mrs Marin and Ms Emslie.
Our Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Hussain, Mrs Qureshi and Mrs Malhotra.
We work as a team so your child may be taught by any or all of us at points through the year, but generally Mrs Queenborough, Mrs Marin and Mrs Hussain are based in Sky Class while Ms Emslie, Mrs Qureshi and Mrs Malhotra are based in Ocean Class.
Year One is a really important year when children move from the Early Years curriculum into Key Stage One of the National Curriculum. This transition is really important to us and we are careful to ensure that the children start the year with some informal learning through continuous provision and small group activities, moving towards more formal lessons as the year goes on so that they are ready for the challenges of Year Two by the summer term.
Your child will enjoy some exciting and adventurous topics during their time with us, all designed to build their confidence in tackling the core skills of reading, writing and maths, while keeping an emphasis on curiosity, creativity, practical activities and fun.
Our PE days in Year One are Tuesday and Friday and we ask that children come to school wearing their PE kits on these days. Reading books will be changed on Monday and Wednesday, and there will also be Monster Phonics e-books available to read. Please could you sign the book when you have read with your child. Children should bring in their reading books and reading records every day please. We will change books at our school library on Fridays.
